Inspired by the traditional Norse board game hnefatafl, Hnefa is a tactical diplomacy game where the player must speak to the human counterparts of board game pieces in order to have them move. Will you be able to say the right thing and save your king? Or will your choices lead to the downfall of your village?

Part of my second year at Massey University - Bachelor of Creative Media Production - was to work on a Third-Year project and I got the chance to work with Matthew Barber - Director, Lani Gray - Producer and Zelle Marcovicci - Lead Programmer on their project 'Hnefa'.

While it was awesome to work on an ambitious Third-Year project. This experience taught me the dos and don'ts of working in a team. From 'Hnefa' I realised how important team communication and sharing the director's vision are.

As a Second-Year, I was not given a lot of work and I noticed how everyone had a slightly different vision for the final product which caused a lot of development issues. I use this experience to make sure I don't repeat these mistakes in my own projects in the future.
